TO ALL EMPLOYEES
SUBJECT: ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (e.g. CELLULAR PHONES, TEXTING WITH BLACKBERRYS, MP3 PLAYERS, EAR PHONES AND IPODS)
The Safety and Health Committees have determined that the use of cellular phones, texting and listening to music with headphones on the job constitutes a danger to the employee and to other employees, i.e. whenever operating any equipment or vehicles, hatchtending and/or directing any operation throughout the terminal unless specifically authorized by Management.
As a result of their determinations the current safety policy is:
At all work sites in the Port of Halifax the use of electronic devices (e.g. cellular phones, Blackberries, MP3 players, ear phones and iPods), with the exception of those provided and/or specifically authorized by the Employer, are prohibited except during meal and break periods.
Individuals who fail to comply with this policy will be subject
to disciplinary action.
